MEN-
Expected to take an active part in public life, Fought in the army and took part in sports.
They went to the theater for fun or performed them.
WOMEN-
Expected to have a private life as mothers and spouses, cook, and weave. Women were not allowed to act or watch theater. The only public duty was being a priestess.
Slavery
was common for wealthy people, to help out around the house.
SPARTA WAS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CITY-STATES IN DAILY LIFE
Women lead active lives to improve themselves to have healthy babies. They were taught reading, writing and battle skills.
Slaves were owned by the city as a whole.
MARRIAGE-
Girls had to do what their fathers told them to including who they marry.
A women still was not free even when they were married.
Children-
Children occupied time by playing with toys and playing games.
Farming and Food-
Most people farmed for a living.But the Greek land was difficult to farm.
Olives were used for- cooking, lighting, beauty products and for athletic purposes
Men used ox driven ploughs
"Ancient Greeks usually ate bread (barley or wheat) and porridge, accompanied with food such as cheese, vegetables, fish, eggs and fruit. Animal such as deer, hare and boars were hunted only as addition to the food supply. Seasoning usually involved coriander and sesame seeds.
